Necklace Size Guide

Choosing the right necklace length helps frame your face and sit perfectly with your neckline. Use the guide below to find the length that suits you best.

Finding Your Choker Size

You can also use string or tape measure to get your choker size, but keep in mind, you don‘t want the necklace to constrict you.

So, grab your string or tape, place it around your neck, and then add 2 inches (or 5 centimetres) to the total size. This will give you the perfect fit for a choker that looks and feels comfortable.

How To Measure Your Desired Necklace Length

This guide is based on a 35 cm Neck size. In order to achieve a similar effect when worn, Be sure to choose the next size up for larger neck sizes or the next size down for smaller neck sizes.

  1. Measure and cut a piece of string to the same length as the necklace you’re eyeing.
  2. Place it around your neck to see where it falls—the key to layering is striking the right balance. Consider the size and shape of the pendant.
  3. Repeat the process to see how necklaces of different lengths may look together.
  4. Refer to the above chart and diagram to finalize the length of your choice.
Necklace Length Position on the Body (WOMEN)
14" Sits snugly like a choker, encircling the neck closely. Works with off-shoulder, boat, scoop, V neck outfits.
16" Rests at the neck's base, resembling a collar. For petite women, it drapes loose at the neck and lands at the collarbone. On a curvier woman, it may have a snugger fit, akin to a choker.
18" The most preferred length that usually sits directly on your collarbone. Works with almost all outfits and best with pendant styles.
20" Hangs right between the collarbone and the top of the bustline. Works with evening wear and shirts.
22" Drapes around or slightly above the upper bust area. Great for a layered look and with shirts.
24" These long necklaces sit below the bust line. This length is an excellent choice for turtle necks or any higher necklines. It’s also a popular pick for evening wear.

Your height also matters. If you are shorter (let’s say, below 5’4”), you should go for necklaces that measure between 16 and 20 inches. If you’re medium height, you can wear any length and it'll probably look great, and if you’re tall (above 5’7”) you might want to go for a long necklace that compliments your height.
