The 4Cs of Diamonds

Whether natural or lab-grown, every diamond is graded using the 4Cs developed by GIA:

1. Cut

  • Determines how well a diamond reflects light.
  • Grades: Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor
  • A well-cut diamond shines brighter regardless of clarity or carat.

2. Color

  • Refers to the absence of color.
  • Scale: D (colorless) to Z (light yellow)
  • The less color, the higher the grade and value.

  • Indicates the presence of internal or external flaws (inclusions/birthmarks).
  • Scale: Flawless (FL) to Included (I1–I3)
